High Schools Initiatives
We are transforming Ohio’s public schools, where only 7 in 10 students graduate every year, from a one-size-fits-all education system into schools where respect for the individual is paramount, and every child is considered “college material.”

Our Role in Public Policy Our Role in Public Policy
Our nation’s public school system is in crisis, generating an emergency response from governors, business leaders, and concerned community members across the country. By identifying best practices and research-based approaches, and advocating for changes, the Foundation supports policies and recommendations that will transform Ohio’s high schools for the better, creating lasting, systemic change.

Based on more than 30 years of research, this Transformation Initiative is turning the state's struggling, urban high schools into smaller, successful high schools where students receive personal attention, and study academically relevant and rigorous material that inspires them to achieve. The Transformation is supported by KnowledgeWorks Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Ohio and U.S. Departments of Education, and the Ford Foundation, in addition to local community-based foundations.

Early College Early College
A network of six Early College high schools, the Early College initiative bridges Ohio's K-12 and higher education systems, so students graduate from high school with not only a high school diploma, but an associate's degree or 60 hours of college credit. Early College is an initiative of KnowledgeWorks Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Kellogg Foundation.
