Kevin J. Sullivan
Kevin Sullivan was a senior advisor and speechwriter to U.S.Secretary Richard Riley between 1993-2000. In that capacity he worked extensively on school modernization issues. He organized the National Symposium on School Design in 1998 and is the co-author of "Schools as Centers of Community: A Citizens' Guide for Planning and Design. "
Sullivan proposed Riley's Annual "State of Education" Address as a high profile vehicle for laying out key points of Administration's education agenda, and wrote all seven. Policy initiatives announced included reading by the end of the third grade, fixing failing schools and making teaching a year round profession. He also led effort to create the "National Commission on the High School Senior Year" headed by Governor Paul Patton of Kentucky. Sullivan conceived and wrote the annual "Baby Boom Echo" report, highlighting the record number of children in school and the growing demand for school construction and modernization. He also initiated and organized the 1998 National Symposium on School Design and co-authored the 1999 publication "Schools as Centers of Community: A Citizen's Guide."
Sullivan was an adjunct professor at American University's School of Communications in 1991 and and Instructor at George Washington's School of Continuing Education in 1985. Sullivan received his B.S.F.S. from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.
