Individual Barriers to Higher Education for Low-wage Workers
  • Juggling work/family
350,000 of Ohio's low-wage workers juggle more than one job.
  • Low wages
Many single adults earn as little as $1,500 a month, while a family of four can earn as little as $3,000 a month.
  • Lack of basic skills or credentials
Many low-income adults lack the access and opportunity to upgrade their skills, or the credentials needed to meet the job requirements for better paying positions.
  • Cost of attending college
The cost of tuition and lost wages prevents some low-income individuals from attending or completing college. Current policies create barriers when non-credit courses for part-time students are not eligible for financial aid.
