Dr. Jacquelyn M. Belcher

Georgia Perimeter College

In 1995, Dr. Jacquelyn M. Belcher became president of the metro-Atlanta, multi-campus district of DeKalb College, now known as Georgia Perimeter College. Her service as a college president and senior executive in community colleges spans over 25 years.

She has previously served on the AACC and ACE Boards and Executive Councils, also serving as AACC Board Chair. In 1999, at the request of the AACC President, Dr. Belcher served as an AACC delegate to the UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Metro Atlanta Boys and Girls Clubs, the Atlanta Business League and The Carter Center's Not Even One Program.

President Belcher is the only University System of Georgia President to serve on the 1999 and 2000 Governor's Education Reform Study Commission (GERSC). In 2000, she served as Chair of the Roles and Responsibilities Committee. In 1999, she served the commission as a member of the Seamless Education Committee. She recently served the State of Georgia as vice chair of the Georgia Human Relations Commission.

Dr. Belcher was recognized in 1998 by Business To Business magazine as one of Atlanta's 30 most prominent female professionals. She has been honored for the past five years as one of Atlanta's Top 100 Black Women of Influence by the Atlanta Business League and received the distinction of Community Champion in 1999 by The Champion Newspaper. She was selected as a member of the Regional Leadership Institute's Class of 1998 as well as Leadership Atlanta's Class of 1999.

President Belcher received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Marymount College in Salina, Kansas. She went on to obtain a master of arts degree in psycho-social nursing and psychology at the University of Washington, as well as a post masters degree in Business for non-Business majors. She holds a juris doctorate degree from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. At Harvard University's acclaimed Graduate School of Education, President Belcher attended the Institute for the Management of Lifelong Education. Jacquee Belcher is married and has adult twin daughters. She and her husband, Lew, reside in Conyers, Georgia.
